Dial Daily Bread: The Grand Climax of Human History

Dear Friends of "Dial Daily Bread,"

The last book of the Bible is Revelation, which talks about last-day events. For a long time we have thought of the second coming of Christ as the grand event of all history, so we would expect to find something in the Book of Revelation that says, "Let us be glad and rejoice, for the second coming of Christ has arrived!" But no, we do not find such a text. Instead we find this one, "Let us be glad and rejoice, ... for the marriage of the Lamb has come" (19:7). THIS is the grand climax of human history for thousands of years!

In fact, the second coming of Christ must be in the background, because it cannot take place unless first of all this "marriage" takes place! And yet the church that talks much about the second coming of Christ and even has it built-in to its name, has said very little about that "marriage" which must come first! And the reason why the second coming has been so long delayed is because that "marriage" hasn't come yet. And the reason why it hasn't come" is not because the Bridegroom has delayed; Christ has not done like some men have done that we have heard of--left an innocent bride standing alone and disappointed and ashamed, at the wedding.

No, "the marriage of the Lamb" has not "come" simply because "His wife [Bride] has NOT made herself ready" (vs. 7). She has left Jesus standing alone at what should be His wedding, embarrassed before the universe. You can hear the angels asking in wonderment, "Why hasn't Your Bride-to-be come to the wedding, properly arrayed? Why has she jilted You this long? Can't You succeed in winning her love and devotion? Must You be forever embarrassed before the heavenly universe?" What can He say in response? Will He find someone else to marry? No, He can't do that, because His love for "one" is eternal.
