For some weeks, millions of Christians around the world have been studying about happiness in the Christian home. This weekend they are studying about a somber aspect of so-called Christian homes: oppression and abuse in the family. The Lesson frankly states that it is possible that home can become a hell on earthif some members are arrogant torturers of others in the family. There is no hope for these abusers but to fall on the Rock and be broken (cf. Matt.
But what is the hope for the abused? One true answer: fellowship with Christ in His sufferings. He was abused; now your mind is lifted above your own suffering to realize that you are being honored to experience an always-to-be-appreciated closeness to Him (see 1 Peter 1:6-13; 2 Cor. 1:3-7; Phil. 3:10). And remember, Jesus does not call you to be a doormat; you will not be proud but you will respect yourself as someone purchased with His blood (cf.
